'My parents bought me a birthday meal and my roommates left it on the table to go bad'

I'm long moved out and live in a another state, so my parents bought me all my favorite frozen foods growing up to be delivered to my door.

I asked my roommates if they could bring it in and make sure it's taken care of, and all three of them said yes in the group chat. I work 10+ hour days and had no clue what was going to be in the delivery (I just received the notification I was receiving something

from Target), so I wanted to make sure it was climate controlled in case it was art supplies or nail polish (two hobbies my parents have supported a lot with other gifts over the years) or whatever else it might be.
  • 05
When I got the text it was delivered, I asked my roomies if they had grabbed it. No response. Thirty minutes go by, and I ask again.
  • 06
I sent a question mark at 2 hours. Still no response. I get home 4.5 hours after it was delivered. One of roommates in in spitting range of the kitchen table where two grocery bags lie in a watery mess.

They left the two bags of groceries on the table and my whole birthday gift was no longer safe to eat. The ice cream sloshed around as I picked it up and left a gooey mess. Happy birthday to me~

MYOB3 You need better room mates. That was thoughtful of your parents. Happy birthday though.

Expensiv... Your roommates suck, but your parents probably should have ensured you would be home before ordering perishable items for delivery.

Nyssa_a... My parents delivered a birthday cake to my dorm room my freshman year. My roommate ate the whole thing while I was gone.
  • 11
Drunken... Your problem was asking in the group chat and not asking them individually, usually if it's the group chat people have a "someone
  • 12
else will take care of it" mentality, while if you ask them individually they hold themselves accountable
  • 13
Just1Du... It was delivered frozen and you came home to it after 4.5 hours? Sucks it made a wet mess, but that food is still fine...

Food safety is very important, but if the window of safety were THAT small, there'd be like 50% less humans alive today
