2 roommates let special birthday meal expire after ignoring roommate's texts for 4+ hours: 'Your problem was asking in the group chat'

The more people who are in a group chat, the less you're actually going to pay attention — and respond — to what's being said. You probably already know this from your day-to-day life, especially if you're in some group chats of like, 5+ people. It means that you wake up in the morning and see that people have been writing in the group chat, but you just ignore it because there's a lot to catch up on. Maybe you're still waking up, so you skim what people have been writing about, and then just forget to ever reply. 

However, this person has 2 roommates, and they just totally ignored them. That's not like, a huge group chat. That's only 3 people! It's one thing if those 2 people are talking back and forth all day about something random like a TV show or how to get to a friend's house. But it's another if one person is begging someone to do a very simple task! For them to ignore the chat, they'd have to be willfully looking away from their phones. I know a lot of people, myself included, keep their phones on do not disturb 24 hours a day… but you can still peek in every once and a while to ensure there aren't any emergencies going down in your text messages. 

Commenters had thoughts about this roommate situation, and some were surprised that the birthday celebrator actually disposed of the food when they did. A cake could be left out for 4.5 hours, but ice cream would never survive such a fate. Next birthday, these roommates totally owe this person a cake baked from scratch to make up for all the stress!

    I sent a question mark at 2 hours. Still no response. I get home 4.5 hours after it was delivered. One of roommates in in spitting range of the kitchen table where two grocery bags lie in a watery mess.
